Innovative product solutions for constructional sound insulation in electrical installation work around the topic of “Compact sound insulation” were at the heart of the Kaiser Group's trade show presence at Stuttgart's eltefa 2017. The range of sound insulation boxes for various applications which was introduced in 2010 has been constantly added to in recent years. Now the range has been rounded off to meet the electrical trade's needs with four new cavity wall boxes for Ø 68 mm component openings, so the manufacturer of electrical installation systems for all applications in drywall and solid wall constructions now offers the perfect solution for whenever and wherever peace and quiet are required.

The minimum requirements made of sound insulation are defined in DIN 4109. VDI 4100 adds two sound insulation levels with increased demands. In addition, the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik e. V.” (= “German Society for Acoustics”) has specified seven classes of sound insulation which categorise residential units according to the quality of their sound insulation. In doing this, Class F stands for apartments with poor sound insulation of less than 50 dB. Residential units with very good sound insulation and a sound insulation value of ≥ 72 dB are assigned to the very best category of Class A*. For the individual classes, increasing the level of sound insulation by 6 dB means halving the perceived volume level.

The basis in sound insulation
The newly-developed Schallschutzdosen 68 (sound insulation box 68) provide the specialist trade with a safe and secure basis for ensuring sound insulation in electrical installation work. As the boxes have a sound insulation value of 69 dB, their use guarantees sound insulation in residential buildings up to and including Class A. They are available as one-gang boxes or one-gang junction boxes and also in halogen-free versions. When fitted in combination with sound insulation covers, they can also be used as junction boxes.

By using the Schalksmühle-based brand-name manufacturer's new Schallschutzdose 68, the electrical trade can now carry out the electrical installation work in cavity walls quickly and easily – and without affecting the wall's sound insulation function. The installation diameter of 68 mm allows the entire installation process to be carried out in sound-insulated cavity wall constructions with a single cutter size. What's more, retrofitting during refurbishing work is not a problem.

The solid, closed and air-tight body of the Schallschutzdose 68 reflects sound, and the base of the box and the periphery are also fitted with sound-absorbing components which reduce the transfer of the structure-borne sound from the wall to the box. Even with opposing installation, the wall's sound insulation function is still preserved. This saves a considerable amount of time and money, because there is no need for any additional constructional measures and materials or work carried out by other trades. This allows the electrical trade to provide the sound insulation for electrical installation work quickly, at low cost – and from a single source.

Easy-to-cut cable entries up to 11.5 mm and conduit entries up to M25 permit flexible installation for both the one-gang box and the one-gang junction box. The sound insulation boxes can be combined with each other in up to 5-way combinations by the use of fully-insulated support connectors.

Maximum sound insulation for cavity walls
For increased requirements made of sound insulation as needed in the commercial sector, for example in hospitals, care homes, doctors' practices or hotels – but also in detached homes and apartment buildings – KAISER supplies the cavity wall sound insulation boxes which have been tried-and-tested for many years.

These boxes completely maintain the sound-insulating characteristics of sound insulation walls up to a sound insulation value of 77 dB. This means that they can also be fitted in Class A* residential units with very good sound insulation. A solid box body with elastic sound insulation sheathing reflects and absorbs the sound. Expert reports confirm that, even with opposing installation and up to 5-way combinations, the sound-insulating characteristics of sound insulating walls are preserved without any restrictions or the need for any additional sound-insulating measures.

Installation corresponds to that used for traditional cavity wall boxes. In order to ensure exact-fitting cutting of the Ø 74 mm installation openings, Kaiser's product range includes numerous practice-oriented system tools such as the Multi 4000 turbo cutter or the Multi 2000 HM. Multiple combinations wth the standardised combination distance are easily achieved by using the sound insulation boxes. To do this, remove the marked thinner section of the holding ring on the sound insulation boxes which you want to combine. Through-wiring is by means of support connectors.

Electronics box with large installation volume
More population flexibility and a larger installation volume are possible by using sound insulation electronics boxes with a depth of 70 mm. They create a comfortable and simultaneously sound-insulated installation space for electronic components such as radio-controlled, alarm and blind / shutter modules, actuators, relays or transformers. Network connection boxes can also be installed while maintaining the cable bending radii for optimal data transfer. An insertable separator wall also allows the standardised fitting of different voltage types. The electronics box has numerous opening possibilities for cables and installation conduits up to M25. In addition to switches, sockets and installation accessories, cable reserves can also be fitted. Sound insulation is completely preserved even in a sound insulation wall up to 78 dB.

Sound insulation in solid construction walls
The demands made of sound insulation need to be observed and maintained not only for drywalls but also for solid walls. KAISER's product range includes the flush-mounting sound insulating box for this sector, and even with opposing installation and entire penetration of the wall by the electrical installation, it completely preserves the sound insulation function. The flush-mounting sound insulation box guarantees the sound insulation of single-leaf lime sand brick up to a wall thickness of 30 cm. It has six entry options for electrical installation conduits up to M25, or for cables up to a diameter of 11.5 mm. Use the universal opening cutter to make exact-fitting cable entries. To install the box, cut an 82 mm diameter component opening in the wall. Multiple combinations can be created simply by fitting and locking the boxes together.

By using this comprehensive range of sound insulation boxes, the electrician has the right solution for every application to ensure preservation of the wall's sound-absorbing function, in spite of any electrical installation work which has been carried out, and without any additional constructional measures.
